Title: OPTIMAL DESIGN OF A SEWER LINE
Authors: Jain, Ravindra Kumar

Issue Date: 1988
Abstract: Sewer design can be greatly improved by'use of computers, which' not only satisfies the various requirements but also minimizes the cost. The present work addresses itself to the same task of development of computer software for optimal deSign of a sewer line. The sewer line considered here is a collection main. The problem has been formulated as a linear programming problem satisfying not only the .flow constraints but invert progression, minimum cover, sewer falls, fixed outfall level constraints also. The design is further checked for other constraints like minimum and .maximum velocities, and remedial measures are taken in the form of increasing the diameter or providing the flushing arrangements. It is hoped that the algorithm can directly be applied for the design of main sewer line. The algorithm can be extended for a sewer network system
