Issue Date: 1993
Abstract: The tactile technology for analysing water samples from various sources is expansive, time consuming and cumbersome. Many a time collection of sample is also difficult and therefore is not effective in pollution monitoring on global basis. Of late, the techniques of remote sensing the science of surveillance, have been successfully employed in monitoring water quality. However, much work has not been reportedly under taken in this country in this direction particularly with reference to pollution caused by oil. The present study aims to monitor some of the environmental parameters using indegenously developed ISRO, spectro-radiometer-02. The parameters considered were D.O. and oil. The laboratory investigations have revealed the capability of spectro-radiometer-02 for predicting the D.O. level and identtification and discrimination of oils. Mathematical models have been proposed predicting D.O. level and discriminating oils. An attempt have also been made to identify those areas which remains to be plugged in augmenting further research in this direction.
