In different fields of engineering, the weirs are used as flow measuring and flow control devices. The discharge through the linear ,tieir is proportional to the .first power of head. Therefore, this weir as a flow measuring device introduces less error in discharge comput-ations for given errors committed in the head measurements. In the present investigation, experiments were performed with the linear weir without base correction and datum correction to investigate the variation of discharge coefficient with the ratio of head over the weir and height of the crest. This variation of discharge coefficient has been used in deriving a profile of practical linear weir and an equation has been developed for computing the dischaige through it. Performance of the proposed weir has been tested experimentally.en_US
