dc.description.abstractRoad surface characteristics have the greatest influence on the skid resistance and thus it is quite common to treat skid resistance as a pavement property. The pav_- ment skid resistance is the characteristic to develop horizontal frictional force on a sliding tyro when being prevented from rotation. The problem of skid resistance requires attention in three stages (i) testing for skid resistance i.e. frictional behaviour of different wearing courses (ii) design and construction of skid resistant pavement and (iii) maintenance of pavement to retain the desired skid resistance level. In the current study, an effort has been made to carry out the comparative study of frictional behaviour of open-graded premix carpet, and semi-dense carpet. The beam specimens were tested on tyre testing machine under different longitudinal slip conditions. it critical slip, peek value of coefficient of friction for different mater-ials have been found. Similarly for fully locked wheel condition, sliding value of coefficient of friction for different wearing courses have been obtained. The tests give a very good comparison of frictional behaviour of these two types. Also a comparison was made with sheet asphalt paving mixdeveloped in another investigation currently in progress (39).en_US
