dc.description.abstractScattering of charged particles by atoms and ions is one of the most fundamental processes in atomic physics. Various theoretical approaches, in addition to experimental measurements, have been proposed and applied to understand such processes. The theoretical approaches include classical, semiclassical and quantum mechanical approximation methods. Among various-quantum mechanical theories, the distorted wave methods have proved, in recent years to be quite use-ful and simple to study such processes. The work reported in this thesis is author's attempt to study few scattering processes involving charged particles and atomic systems within the framework of quantum mechanical approach, mainly adopting suitable distorted wave approximation methods. The complete work mainly deals with the study of scattering processes involving heavy atoms/ions where large experimen-tal activities are in progress. The entire thesis is divided into seven chapters. General introduction of the subject and basic idea of the work reported in all other chapters are given in first chapter. The brief review of the previous theoretical and experimental developments made in the collision processes during past years in connection with the present study is also discussed. Various approximation methods, which have been either referred or used in the present work, are briefly discussed in this chapter.en_US
