Issue Date: 1986
Abstract: The cottage saree printing industry developed in Mathura during the last 25 years with enormous rate. There are about 200 small scale units at present. These small scale units do not have any treatment unit and discharge their wastes into various water sources polluting either the ground water or waters of river Yamuna. This resulted into polluted waterm at bathing ghats and culminated into public demonstrations during summers of 1985. These small scale units are not able to install costly treatment units and hence this study was directed towards a technoeconomically feasible solution. The treatment cost comes to Rs. 30,000 as capital cost and Rs. 58300.0/annum (20 Paise per scree) as operational cost for a 1000 sarees/day unit, giving colourless effluent within standards as prescribed by U.P. Pollution Control Board.
