The analysis of 8olani Aqueduct is the problem of importance and urgency because any damage to it will have far reaching adverse effect not only on the prosperity of western U.P. but also on the country as a whole. In view of extreme importance of structure, the finite element method has been used for the realistic assessment of strength of the existing arches. Interactive graphics system has been used for input output of the finite element program. to draw the finite element mesh and to show deformations, stress contours etc. For actual assessment of stress distribution in aqueduct six different idealised structures have been considered for finite element analysis. The various case studies have been undertaken with the following objectives- (1) To determine the extent to which the spandrel portion participates in strengthening to main arch. (2) To estimate the actual stress distribution in arches and pier for water and gravity load. (3) To find out the magnitude of vertical reaction and dist-ribution of stress at the base of wells. • (4) To observe the behaviour of structure in the presence of foundation arches at the level of river bed.
