dc.description.abstractThe present thesis is based on the hyperfine interaction studies of some iron containing alloys and compounds. Although 57Fe Mdssbauer spectroscopy has been used as a basic tool to perform these studies, other investigations pertaining to X-ray diffracto- metric measurements, mechanical and bulk magnetic pro- perties have also been carried out. The subject matter of the thesis has been arranged in the following eight chapters. CHAPTER 1 In this chapter, the usefulness, selectivity and accuracy of MOssbauer Spectroscopy over other methods used to study hyperfine interactions have been discussed. This is followed by the statement about the motivation of the work reported in this thesis. CHAPTER 2 A brief discussion of the theoretical back round needed in the discussion of the Mossbauer Spectroscopic data, constitutes the content of this chapter. The hyperfine parameters, their source of origin and the effect of impurities on these have also been outlined. CHAPTER 3 This chapter brings out the experimental details regarding the Missbauer spectrometer and cryogenerator iii used for these measurements. Salient features of X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and vibra- ting sample magnetometer have also been included in brief. The recorded Mossbauer spectra were handled through two computer programme and, therefore, a note on these regarding the purpose and capabilities has also been included in this chapter.....en_US
