Issue Date: 1986
Abstract: Large scale complex construction projects have always had the need for systematic planning, scheduling, and moni-toring of the progress of the projects. Out of various network techniques mainly Critical Path Method (CPM) and Project Evaluation and Reviewing Technique(PERT) are most commonly and efficiently in use for 'Construction Project Management,. The increased tempo and consequent pressure of rapidly escalating size and complexity of today's construction proje-cts, place an added strain on the traditional methods of-construction. It becomes humanly impossible for a management executive to direct all units of his team towards one common goal. Clealy under these circumstances, the sophisticated information and data handling capabilities of an electronic computer can be utilised in construction management as used in other engineering desciplines. The text in this dissertation includes the description of computer programs for CPM scheduling, Random node numbering, Calendar dating, Resource scheduling, and programs to plot histogram. To illustrate the computer programs, a typical School building projett is considered, and the results of the same are attached. It is hoped that the increasing computer facilities in the form of Regional Computer Centres will be a boon in the development of Construction Industry.
