Abstract: The B.O.D. of waste waters is an important 'parameter in various aspects of Environmental En.gineering including design and operation of treatment units, river studies and pollution abatement although the work in this direction was started about 80 years ago. Some specific fields have still remained untouched. In the waste water disposal by dilution, normally the -waste waters are disposed off in bodies of water inland e.g. lakes, pounds, streams, rivers, etc. However for towns and industries situated in costal regions where basically the salt cocentretion are much higher than the inland waters, the problem of disposal by dilution becomes different. The natural purification processes including B.O.D. exertion seems to be much different from that in inland waters. Thus in applying the water quality models both the value of reaeration and deaeration constant require 'modifica-tions depending upon.the salt concentrations of the estuary or brackish waters.
