Abstract: The knowledge of fluid dynamic forces on cables is essential, in order to 3esiun guyed structures properly. So far little is known about these forces as only a few investigators have studied them. All investigators, who studied th fluid dynamic forces on cables, dealt with the static com.ionent of the force only. Further most of the studies are based on the fl,sults of Diehl and it in not known that unler what conditions Diehl obtained those results. Hence keeping these points in view experiments were conducted on an inclined hollow circular rods which represents a segment of a cable under different conditions of flow with respect to the rod. The data obtain.erl from the experiments were analysed to get an idea about the fluid dynamic forces on cables. In the present study both mean and fluctuating components of the fluid dynamic force have been estimated experimentally for different orientations of the rod w.r.t. the flow.
