dc.description.abstract | Integrated pulp and paper mills using kraft process are known for their high air pollution potential nature. Higher concentrations of particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and mercaptans have been observed in the vicinity of kraftmills. In India, little efforts have been made so far, to correlate the emission of these air pollutants with their ground level concentrations in the plant surroundings to understand the gravity of the situation we are heading for. In the present study meteorological data relating to wind have been measured for three months. The data have been analysed and isopleths for ground level concentrations of particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and mercaptans emitted from the kraftmill have been plotted. The predicted values have been. compared with the ambient air quality standards. The actual background value of ground level concentration and downwind ground level concentration have also been measured. Dustfall in surrounding areas of the mill upto a radius of 5.0 km in sixteen directions has been also predicted. Air pollution control strategy using inplant control and external control measures have been suggested to contain the air pollution from kraftMill | en_US |
