The dynamic behaviour of a Vertical Shaft Lime Kiln is controlled by a large number of operational parameters, such as the temperature, air flow rate, or draft, size of Lime stone, type of fuel and the lime stone and fuel feed ratio and rate etc. The performance of* Vertical Shaft Lime Kiln which operates in three zones namely, Preheating, Cooling and Combustion is predomi-nantly affected by the operating temperature in various zones. Different calcining periods could be obtained by varying the air flow rate, the surface orientation of lime stone etc. An increase in temperature accelerates the calcination rate by lowering the calcining time and vice-versa. The present work is based on the study of the thermal dynamics of the above said system. The whole process of the lime , manufacture is considered as semi batch and with this assumption, the temperature variation with time along the height and the diameter of the kiln in all the three zones are studied.en_US
