Man since his begining has considered water as an unlimited natural source and able to sustain various kinds of abuse. It is only recently, it has been realised that because of increase in oopulati..)n and industrial and scientific develop-ments the demand '-cc water has also increased many folds, This leads to two factors, first, shortage of water for human consum-ption and secondly, the degradatiOn in water quality due to pollution. It is because of this fact, the public awareness tcwards the water conservation and pollution control been nur-tured in recent years and now has reached its climax water is also an essential material for industrial development and it is widely used for washing, cleaning, steam generation, as process water etc. in various industries with increase in the cost of other essential commodities and labour during the past twenty years. There is a substantial increase in the cost of water ; and at present water is treated as an essential raw material for industries which reflect the economy of the industry. Therefore, in order to save water from pollution and to have its optimum utilization, it is necessary to conserve our water resources and to treat the polluted waste waters and reuse themen_US
