Authors: Chaturvedi, Surya Prakash

Issue Date: 1985
Abstract: The effect of saturation is to cause reduction in strength of rocks, therefore, it become a.of utmost importance to study the effect of saturation on rock:i,,p-roperties and quantify them. The study was carried on eight type of rocks and it was found that uniaxial compressive strength, pbint load strength index and modulus of elasticity get reduced to a maximum of 33 percent, 37 percent and 17 percent respectively. The test data was analysed and suitable correlation between modulus of elasticity and point load strength index test data was obtained. Correlation between uniaxial compressive strength and point load strength index has also bean establish-id. .A new correlation between uniaxial compressive strength and point load strength index test data considering deformation under point load strength index- tsiet has also bean developed. A. new approach in developing accurate correlations has been forwarded which opens an entirely new area for da/e3loping correlations which can be used effectively • in determining inter-related properties.
