Abstract: In view of the widely different bubble shapes observed experimentally, an empirical but more realistic bubble shape model has been suggested in this work. According to this model, the shape of a growing bubble may be represented by a segment of a sphere characterised by its base radius and its vertical height. Based on this model an expression has been developed for liquid microlayer thickness as it forms on the heated surf ace under the bubble base.. Heat transfer as a result of microlayer evaporation and by conduc-tion and convection across the curved surface of the bubble has been investigated. Expressions have been developed for bubble growth. These have been compared with the experimental data and expressions obtained by previous investigators and also with the experimental data obtained by the author....
