Title: SCATTERING OF CHARGED PARTICLES FROM ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR SYSTEMS
Authors: Gupta, Govind Prasad
Keywords: PHYSICS;SCATTERING CHARGED PARTICLES;ATOMIC SYSTEM;MOLECULAR SYSTEMS
Issue Date: 1980
Abstract: The work reported in this thesis is author's attempt to investigate and obtain an understanding of the collision of charged particles with atomic and molecular systems. In the first part of the thesis a detailed theoretical study of the electron and positron scattering with hydrogen and helium target atoms is made. Differential cross sections have been calculated for several transitions in the inter-mediate energy range and compared with other theories and experimental data. In the second part of the thesis a theo-retical study of the collisional quenching of metastable helium ion with noble gases and molecular targets is made. The cross sections and rates thus obtained are compared with the recent experiment. Further, rotational excitation of molecules and molecular ions, by electron impact has been studied for molecular systems of astrophysical interest. The whole work is divided into four sections....
