Abstract: The present study aims at improving the existing forms of the linear programming (LP)-based implicit stochastic reservoir yield model to include water transfer, conjunctive use and its application to study the behaviour of reservoir systems of the Cauvery basin under the domain of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal Final Order (CWDT-FO). This study has considered all the major and medium projects - existing as well as future identified. The improved reservoir yield model has been termed as 'Conjunctive Use Yield Model (CUYM)'. The use of this model could reduce the size of the problem from 26111 constraints, as it would have been in case of complete reservoir yield model, to 9241 constraints under full stage development of reservoirs. Since the size of the problem is large, an algorithm termed as 'Comprehensive River Basin Analysis (CRBA)' has been developed in FORTRAN to help generate the equations of the model. The study has analyzed the behaviour of the reservoirs under the domain ofCWDTFO with and without consideration of ground water. The main outputs of theCUYM pertain to the site wise volume of water to be delivered to maintain the Tribunal mandate, state of reservoirs, carry over storage, yield of reservoirs, ground water utilization, irrigation intensities, crop areas, storage capacities of proposed reservoirs, etc. From the model out, there is information regarding reservoir releases for sharing of water between the riparian states as per the CWDT-FO, sharing under various deficit conditions. The model outputs also tell about the behaviour of reservoirs under the recommendatory clauses of the Tribunal. Finally, the study has been concluded outlining an honest recommendation for further research.
