Abstract: Project management is an important aspect in the framework of a project structure. The principal reason for the development of project management is that the traditional forms of organization structure and management techniques can not handle project works effectively. Management must not only monitor progress and take timely corrective action in case of lapses, but should also arrange for data collection and feedback to designer and decision maker. Management has to guide the jobs to successful completion, coordinate the entire design and construction efforts with special attention to cutting cost, and thereby, exploring ways and means to improve economy. The techniques of operation research used for planning, scheduling and controlling large and complex project are often .referred as network analysis. The objective of this study is to emphasize the application of network analysis techniques for effective project management CPM (Critical Path Method) and PERT (Programme Evaluation and Review Technique) are two fundamental analytical techniques which provide a methodology for planning, scheduling and controlling of a project. CPM is based on a deterministic approach where the duration of the various activities are assumed to be known with certainty whereas PERT technique is used for non-deterministic activities in nature
