Issue Date: 2012
Abstract: River Ganga can be referred to as a lifeline for the whole of India. A major part of India benefits from it either directly or indirectly. The basin management program of the Ganga is being considered by the Govt. of India. The Ganga has a very large impact in the ground water characters, agricultural nutrient facilities etc. The SWAT analysis is the best tool available in recent days because of its various field applications and accuracy and ease. SWAT has room for land use assessment, ground water modeling, nutrient analysis, rainfall analysis and various other parameter modeling. The area is around 22600 km2 and covers the tributaries and their sub watersheds which contribute to the Ganga basin. As the first step of the SWAT analysis, the delineation of the watershed gives an outline of the terrain and drainage properties in sub basin level including the sub basin division of the watershed. This is followed by the HRU analysis, and weather data inputs and' finally the SWAT calibration. This report is an account of the process of SWAT modeling of the initial stretch of the Ganga up to Haridwar Keywords: basin, sub basin, delineation, processing, stream flow, HRU etc.
