Abstract: Although a number of Power Houses have been constructed both in India as well as in other countries, no exact analysis or standards for the design of Power House Structure are yet available. The power engineers consider each Powerhouse as an individual problem, which should be tackled in its own way. Thus, due to its complex shape and force system acting upon it, the determination of stress distribution in the Power House structure is still an unsolved question, leaving much to the personal judgment of the design engineers. The present dissertation is limited to the stress analysis in intermediate structure (concrete around a steel scroll case) of a Hydro Power Station with vertical axis reaction turbine. Scroll case is required to distribute the water from penstock to circumference of the turbine runner uniformly and smoothly in order to obtain the maximum efficiency. Steel scroll case is generally used for medium and high head while concrete scroll case can be used for low head...
