Cantonment planning has been definedlto be planning of a city or town with mili.. tary bias. The history of cantonment planning is as old as the civilization itself. The concept of cantonment planning since its origin till today kept on changing to attain the present form (refer Chapter 1 Plates 1 and 2). The present concept of planning cantonments in India is based on its major functional requirements of firstly, the need of training defence personnel and easy, quick and convenient access to forward training grounds and combat areas; and secondly4to house the defence personnel.2 |
