Issue Date: | 2001 |
Abstract: | The objectives of the present study is to carry out the following. 1. To study the effect of valley slope on stresses and displacements. 2. To determine the limit beyond which 2-dimensitional analysis is adequate. 3. To determine the impact of non-linear behavior of material on stresses and displacements. 4. To determine the effect of sequential construction. The dams, which are selected for the present study, are located in V-shaped valley. Darns of three different heights, such as 100m, 200m and 300m are used in this study. The canyon slopes of 40, 50, 60, 75 and 77.5 degreesare considered with valley width factor of 1.87, 2.58, 3.66, 7.66 and 9.12. '1'llc valley width (actor (Li) is equal to the ratio of top width to height of the dam. The same transverse section is used for all the three- dimensional and two-dimensional (plane strain) analysis to facilitate comparison of the results of 3-D and 2-D (plane strain) analysis. |
