Among all renewable sources of energy development of mini micro and small hydropower projects have been found most suitable. These projects have its merit vis-a Vis development of major hydro projects. Small hydro is the best and perhaps, the only solution to meet the local requirement in the flung hilly region particularly in Himalays.Small hydro projects require diversion structures to divert water from stream to the power station which is one of the main component of a hydel scheme. In most of the small hydel schemes the diversion structure is a weir. The experience gained so far have shown that the conventional type of over ground ogee type ungated weirs are not well suited for the hilly streams which can carry large amount of heavy boulders and bed loads. There are instances when such diversion structures get damaged during flash floods......en_US
