Abstract: In the economic development of any nation, optimal harnessing of natural resources like, water resources, fossil fuels, mineral resources etc is essential. In case of • water. resources development creation. of storage schemes/reservoirs plays a crucial role. The prototype observations in the reservoirs have shown that sediment deposits in both live and dead storages and reduces the planned utilisation of the reservoir .The necessity of predicting the pattern of sediment deposition in reservoirs at planning stage is, thus, obviously essential. It is also essential to precisely estimate the sediment yield of the catchment and then initiate suitable steps for checking the sediment inflow in reservoir. Actually, the sedimentation process is a very complex phenomena. It depends on, many factors like soil characteristics, hydrological condition, reservoir operation, size of sediment, slope of the river, geometry of reservoir etc. These factors vary from reservoir to reservoir, and it is difficult to estimate accurately the probable rate of sedimentation and its pattern of deposition in a reservoir at the planning stage. In most of the reservoirs, it is found that the design rate of sediment inflow is often less than the actual rate of sediment deposition, as determined from reservoir surveys subsequently.....
