Issue Date: 1999
Abstract: The underground cavities of large dimensions are encountered in construction of underground power houses. Due to complex geological formations, variation occurs in the rock parameters as the excavation proceeds. Therefore, detailed study of rock stresses are required for safe and speedy construction. The anisotropy of rock bears a significant influence on stress redistribution of underground cavities. The dissertation is a continued work of analysis of underground cavities at Chibro power house at Uttar Pradesh. The. rock parameters are considered as discontinuous and an analysis of the particular section is made and verified with the field conditions in actual design situation. The plan of dissertation work includes the study of the. various aspects of underground construction specially the cavities of large dimensions. This include determination of factors responsible for in-situ stresses which also affect the rock stability in the underground construction....
