Abstract: Prediction of the shape, magnitude and size of flash flood resulting from an embankment breach is important for safe management of flood plain. During breaching of flood embankment, the flow passes from the main river waterway to the flood plain and this can be simulated through a time - dependent breach in the levee using an appropriate breach flow equation. This results in extreme attenuation of the peak discharge in the downstream of the breach location as the flood wave propagates through the flood plain. The tendency for extreme peak attenuation and rapid damping of differences in the peak discharge is accentuated due to presence of a very wide flood plain. Therefore, the breach flow is routed through the flood plain along which the levee is located....
