dc.description.abstract | waste stabilization pond is a small ecosystem - a segment of nature itself - 4nd its study can be meaningful only when conducted with reference to its environment. A pond is a biological, rather than an engineering phenomenon; living, respiring and working for the humanity and in all fairness, it should be treated with utmost care and tenderness. With its flora, fauna, microbes and environment; all living together, interdependent, interaffecting and interacting with each other, it has to be taken in its totality and not studied limb by limb. Considerable studies have been carried out on Waste Stabilization Ponds but mostly by engineers or b;)tanists with one or the other component in focus. An ecosystem approach to a Waste S,Abilization Pond has generally been lacking so far. Waste Stabilization Ponds 'are important for tropical countries like India. With their low initial cost and multiple benefits 9. they could be used with advantage in our rural areas where availability of land is no problem. An ecological study of the stabilization pond.) with an ecosystem approach, therefore becomes relevant. Present investigation is ail humble effort in that direction. | en_US |
