Abstract: Applications of Expert System are now a days being felt and implemented in almost all walks of life. This dissertation is an attempt to develop a rule based expert system for development of supports for underground caverns. The data base consists of different type of supports generally used in water resources projects while considering the different .types of rock conditions and their design methods by using the EXSYS expert system shell. The system operates in an advisory mode offering the user solutions pertaining to provision of supports for underground caverns.
