dc.description.abstractIn most practical situations a high dimensional mathematical model is obtained for a system. The exact analysis for such system is both tedious and expensive hence a. mathematical model, which reflects the important properties of the original high order system, is constructed to facilitate it analysis and design. A large, number of reduction methods are available in the literature for the reduction of discrete and continuous time systems. This dissertation is confined for the application of Routh Hurwitz array method for the reduction of linear time invariant continuous time/discrete time dynamic systems. In the existing literature methods for system order reduction have been developed both in time domain and frequency domain. In this dissertation the two well known frequency domain methods have been described. These are Routh approximation and Routh Hurwitz array methods. The main advantage of these methods is that they always . give stable reduced models for stable systems. The first introductory chapter describes the need for model order reduction. The model reduction problem is also described in the same chapter. A brief overview of model reduction methods is given in second chapter.
