Geological studies of 60 sq. km area in eastern part of the Betul district were carried out by geological mapping on 1:50,000 scale. The area mapped is situated within the administrative boundary of Betul district, Madhya Pradesh. It falls in survey of India Toposheet No. 55 K/1 on 1:50,000 scale. The lithostratigraphy of the area is characterized by an assemblage of Archaean-Proterozoic rocks comprising Quartz-Mica Schist, Granite gneisses, Granite, Actinilite-Tremolite schist, Talc-Tremolite schist. These rocks are capped .by Deccan Trap Basalt. Amla gneisses include unclassified granite gneisses, banded gneisses and injection gneisses with intercalatory bands of tremolite-actinolite schist and amphibolites in it. Scope of work has been limited by paucity of exposures in this mostly peneplained area and soil covered cultivated land.. It is possible that some of the basic- ultra basic intrusives represent younger mafic suites. Betul gneissic complex and greenstone belt is intruded by younger granitoids and granite porphyry. The area is situated near a major lineament known as Tapti lineament. Major structural elements of the area follow ENE-WSW and NE-SW trends. The best example is pillow Lava structure in metabasalts observed during regional traverse near Baragaon village. The major secondary structures observed in the area are foliation, joints and fracture planes. This is represented by regional gneissosity and schistosity of the rock. The general trend of gneissosity and schistosity is NE-SW and dip is varinging from 30 to 90° towards SE. Another important structure observed during mapping is Joints. Two sets of joints are also observeden_US
