One of the basic infrastructures of modern development of present society is electricity. It is essential for sustenance of every facet of national life such as industry, society, agriculture and domestic etc. With rapid growth in demand, significant study has been made, during past half a century, to enhance electricity generation from all viable sources such as hydel, thermal, nuclear and tidal. But to the best man can explore 17% of the total power potential of this earth towards hydropower. (till 1981, Novak).Still the demand for electricity has risen to such an extent that power production from all sources fails to negotiate the demand. To keep pace with the demand exploration of hydro-power is of greater importance due to non consumptive, non polluting, ,multi purpose utilisation, reliable source, relative simple technology with high efficiency, less period of construction, flexibility of operation, excellent peaking power capability, cost stability, maximum local material use, huge local 'employment and economically feasible. These above advantages of hydro-power generation focussed increased world. wide attention on further additional hydro power development. High, medium and low head hydro electric projects have developed like mushrooms with modern technology. Some of the projects have failed to achieve their goal due to faulty planning, design, and management. Interaction of scale and timing of project , innovation of management aspect by matching demand and supply along with structural - rehabilitation can only mitigate the problems to achieve optimal generation capabilities...en_US
