Abstract: This dissertation is an attempt to develop a rule based expert system for instrumentation in concrete dams, which include gravity, arch and roller compacted concrete. The data base consists of information collected from various literature and discussion with the experts in the field• and the rule base (comprising of about 300 rules) derived from the data has been implemented by using the EXSYS expert system shell. The system operates in an advisory mode offering the user solutions pertaining to type, number and location of instruments to be installed in concrete dams depending on design, concrete properties and foundation conditions at the site and the type of dam...
