dc.description.abstractThe present study was intended to generate the base line data on Socio-Technical evaluation of Minor-Irrigation pond of the islands. In order to achieve these, 5 villages out of 87 namely chouldari, Wandoor, Nayashar, Manglutan and Guptapara of Port Blair Tehsil in South Andaman district were taken under study. Personal interview in regards of present cropping pattern, productivity, source of income, utilization of pond water were conducted with the farmers basically those who had taken loan on subsidy to excavate Minor-Irrigation pond. The basic data was collected from Agriculture Department, Andaman Nicobar Administration, Central Agricultural Research Institute and statistical Bureau, Andaman and Nicobar Administration in respect of Minor-Irrigation achievement, construction and Measurement of M-I pond, land use pattern, cropping pattern, cropping technique, productivity, family composition, level of technology, Education, health status, communication and capital assets available for the area.
