TWO DIMENSIONAL BODIES
|Abstract:||In many engineering problems, bodies are subjected to fluid flow and they experience dreg and lift forces. Knowledge of those forces is essential in the design of those body elements. For steady flows without free sur-face effect, some of the important factors which affect those forces are the shape, aspect ratio and thnie'dimen-sionlity or otherwise of the body, its orientation with respect to the flow, the state of flow i.e. laminar or turbulent and the turbulence characteristics if turbulent. Tha conventional drag coefficient versus Reynolds Number curves; established for more common body shapes, are valid only for turbulence-free stream, that too, when the flow is directed normal to the face for the cases of plate and sharp-edged prisms. In this thesis, an attempt has been made to study the effect of turbulence intensity and angle of incidence of flow on the time average drag and lift coefficients for two dimensional rectangulur prisms of a few aspect ratios. Also, the pressure field around the body has been extensively surveyed and the R.M.S. value of pressure fluctuations has been analysed.|
