Issue Date: 1980
Abstract: Reinforced Cement Concrete is most widely used in India as a construction material. It is specially used for the construction of highway bridges, overhead tanks, multistoreyed buildings and several other structures. It is always the aim of the designer to design a most economical and fully reliable structure. The ultimate load. method of design, which is being used by most of the designers today, provides not only economi-cal sections of structural elements as compared to the elastic analysis but also the design procedure is rational and straight forward. This work presents Design Tables and Charts for the design of reinforced cement concrete rectangular and. Tee-beams using ultimate load design technique. These Tables and Charts are very useful for a designer as in no time the dimen-sions of the section and the amount of reinforcement required can be determined for the given ultimate moment to be resisted by the section. The Design Tables have been prepared using M-150 concrete mix and high yield strength deformed bars. The cost of a beam is very sensitive to the variation of the depth of the beam and the amount of steel required. Minimum cost curves and charts are prepared to provide the guide lines to the designers. Minimum cost designs are obtained by using the Lagrange's method of minimization and Parametric Study.
