Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: Geophysical investigations form an integral part to assess the feasibility of a Civil Engineering Structures. These involve selection of suitable sites from technological, geological and economic considerations. The safety of the structure from_x000D_ geological hazards has also to be considered. In the initial stages of investigation, geological and geophysical methods are used to decipher- the sub-surface geological scenario. These methods are reliable and save time and energy._x000D_ Geophysical approaches make use of the differences in_x000D_ physical properties of various rock formations occurring below the earth surface. Basically four kinds of geophysical methods are used, namely-gravity, magnetic, electric and seismic methods. Of these the electrical-resistivity method and seismic refraction method have been found to be very useful in deciphering the foundations of hydraulic structures....
