Abstract: | The present canal system is the result of struggle of past engineers combined with their failures and success, the struggle began since earlier times even before the development of modem science and technology. Thus, the development of present canal system may be called as the wisdom of centuries._x000D_ Jumna (or Yamuna) canal was the first canal in the northern India opened in the 13th century in the Medieval period. During the periods of strong rule and wide organisation the canal has flourished and in the times of dissention and weakness, it has failed and ceased, or nearly ceased to run. The canal has had many births as having many times fallen into disuse and was an excellent illustration of the saying that `The strength of an administration is indicated by its public works.... |
