Abstract: | Surge waves are developed in power channels due to load acceptance, load reduction and load rejection by the power stations which is a frequent phenomenon in the hydropower plants because of being generally peaking stations. - Computations forthese transient-states, developed due tofrequent operation_ of wicket gates and head regulator, is frought with complexities, therefore; not common._x000D_ That is why till now design of hydropower channels -are done assuming-the steady state flow conditions, and for transient-state condition surge tank is provided to dampen the transients. But in small, mini or micro power plants surge . tank is avoided due to. cost consideration and for transient-state condition a byepass channel is provided and operated to release -the rejected discharge. In this case during each rejection period a huge amount of water power potential is being wasted.... |
