Abstract: Irrigation water and cultivable land are the most important resource inputs into irrigated agriculture system. Scientific improvements in irrigation water management and agricultural practices are essential for increasing crop production. This highlights the necessity of systematic command area development program. Information on existing land use/cover cropping pattern, soil characteristics and their spat ial distrilmi ion is a prerequisite for any eommand area development program. Remote . sensing provides multi-spectral and multi-temporal synoptic coverages for the area of interest, while GIS provides the facilities to integrate and analyse multi-disciplinary (source) data. Both, the Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS, have diverse applications and are becoming popular in many fields/sectors because of their capabilities. A part of Bargi LBC command covering about 24000 ha in Narsinghpur district (M.P.) has been selected for this study work. Most of the relevant maps and data have been collected from the concerned project offices and some were extracted from the literatures....
