dc.description.abstractFarmers who were adopting traditional means like rahat and duqwells for liftinq water, have now shifted •to modern b technologies like tubewells in the study area of Lakhaoti Canal Command. Sc, the tubewell operated by an electric motor or diesel engine has become a principal means of qround water exploitation. The lifting of qround water from the numerous tube wells without any consideration to the qround water potential result in adverse effect, meaning thereby lowering the water table every year. The increase in pumping head reduces the 'discharge and increases the pumping cost as well. Generally, the supply in the study area is not found adequate and equitable. 'The operation and maintenance is not to the satisfactory level so it has to be improved...en_US
