Abstract: Water is essential to life. It is indispensable to humans, plants, and animals. it is a basic life supporting system of our planet earth along with,,the air, the soil and the biological systems. In. nature their occurrence is finite in quantity. The growing demand for water and land for the population growth make them scarce and invaluable. The water resource has to be Harnessed through small, medium and large multipurpose water resources projects. The deve-lopment and construction of these projects would improve productivity of lands through irrigation to meet growing requirements of food, fibre and fodder. The multipurpose projects attain further importance because the entire social, economic, scientific, technical and industrial development depends on agricultural production. The develop-ment process needs to continue for longer periods to attain the aims and objectives of the project. This has to be without damaging the environment. The resources have to be regenerated besides having sustained benefits from them...
