Water Resources Development Projects represent an integral part of the entire complex of development aimed at exploitation of that component of'Nature useful for man'. Water provides a basic life supporting system of our planet earth along with the air, the soil and the biological systems. There are, number of alternatives to the availability and adequate supply of energy to fuel and to run modern societies, but there is no substitute for water. And so we are in the process of building and harnessing natural forces to provide hydroelectric energy and water supplies for thirsty land and thirsty population. We are indeed involved in something essential to a modern society and to a peacefull world. The use of natural resources is certainly the only way in which we will meet the .multiplying needs of growing populations through out the world. If we do not have wise and prudent use of the resources on this globe, then the human condition and their environment will suffer. There is a day to day tussle between the environment protectors and the people responsible for future development. However, several studies by sober environmentalists have shown that development and protection are not only compatible but can also be mutually reinforcing. These studies have clarified the stand of persons favouring preservation of the Environment to a great extenten_US
