Issue Date: 1995
Abstract: Irrigation channels are often constructed in alluvial soil for: the conveyance of water from storage and diversion structures. to the fields These channel-s, running through alluvium, carry :'sediment-laden water which may cause the problem of silting and scouring. A channel, in regime, is stable if it transports the sediment entering to 'it without objectionable deposits or ..scour.._ Over 'a period -of time, various design procedure ',for , the stable channel design have been developed by many investigators` notably Kennedy, Lacey, Inglis,. Blench, Chitale, -Engelund and '.Hansen, • Kondap etc. The sediment entering' into the channel is invariably 'graded and nonuniform. -Somehow''none Of-'the' investigators in the past considered the nonuniformity of the sediment: . Most of them adopted the median size d to represent sediment in their equations. So the problem of silting and scouring still persists....
