dc.description.abstract | The geo-morphological behaviour of a river depends on its topographic & hydraulic characteristics. Any change in these characteristics by artificial means, such as levees, reflects itself significantly on the flow characteristics, bed-configuration and overall regime of river. The effect of levees .on the longitudinal and transverse pattern of aggradation/degradation has always perplexed the planners. In spite of constricted floodway due to levees, an aggrading river remains unstable, i.e. excessively eroding the channel at some section and depositing it on the other. Therefore, the effect of levee on the river behaviour requires detailed investigations, so as to arrive at most appropriate levee spacing. Usually such investigations are carried out with the help of physical models. The physical models, apart from being expensive and time-consuming, do not provide much flexibility to the planners in the study of sensitivity of river behaviour to the change in levee spacings.... | en_US |
