This study was aimed at formulating the optimal operation policies for a reservoir system under a stochastic inflow environ-ment. It has been achieved by developing a steady state dynamic pro- gramrning lag-1 Markov model and, a related computer program for a multipurpose reservoir system serving several agriculture zones. The model was formulated for maximizing annual energy generation while meeting monthwise irrigation, flood control and low flow augmentation requirements during operation year of the system. It considers the environmental issue of maintaining dynamic balance of ground water storage, and also tak,:_s care oC additional inflow avail abiliti es from adjoining river basis. The model and the pro-gram were framed considering backward dynamic programming algorithm!_ as the solution technique...en_US
