The Engineering classification of the rock mass for underground construction is about five decades old. First classification was introduced by Karl Terzaghi in 1946. After that number of classification methods have been introduced in various parts of the world and these are in use. To use all of these classification methods at a time is a tedious. job:. In view of the above, taking the help of computer and development of the expert system i.s more. than a simple necessity because a greater part of the professional knowledge in the field of underground works cannot be translated into the usual algorithmic program but it can be built in to the knowledge base of an expert system. The expert. system may be an effective means of translating the knowledge of the specialists for greater use. In this Dissertation an attempt has been made to develop the knowledge base of an expert system RESERMAC`" for Engineering classification of the rock mass by various classification methods....en_US
