Abstract: The economic system and, the technology with which we live today arm as at no previous time - subject to continuous, ever faster change. In this environment, in which huiiin expertise' and expert expri encé are scarce expensive. complex decisions have to be made under pressure. Cnveitionl methods of problem solving, including the classical form of information processing, are no longer adequate for the, solution of many tasks, Expert systems offer a way of getting round these bottlenecks. Expert systems are being developed to make the deep knowledge and r'Vch experience of a few experts' accessible and made available to a longer number of users, without these experts having to do additional work or even being kept from their jobs. By this we usually understand making functionality available, i.e, providing a machine that is capable of reproducing the cognitive performance of the expert. The important is that the expertise of the analysis is made available....
