Abnormal delays and cost escalations in completing river valey projects are unavoidable altogether. Only thing which can be done, is to keep them within the reasonable limits. Tawa project in itself, is an example of extra ordinary delay and cost escalation. Off course, there has been a reasoning behind the delay, like war, non availability of funds, shifting of dam axis and other similar ones, but ultimately the development of irrigation facilities and creation of potential has suffered a lot. The Government of Madhya Pradesh have constituted Tawa Command Developoment Authority (TCDA) in their resolution in 1974. The main idea behind it, was to ensure an all round growth and development of the area irrigated by Tawa Project. This had an objective of optimal utilisation of irrigation potential, optimisation of agricultural production and agro industrial development of the command area. The prevalent conception regarding Tawa Project has been that, it has not yielded in desired socio economic returns even after 34 years of start and 15 years of completion of the dam.. On the other hand the benificiaries are facing water logging and Malaria problem in the Command Area. The aim of this work is to analyse and criticize upon it, as to how efficiently it is working and what are the reasons why it is not optimally working. The engineering data for analysis were collected from left bank Canal Circle Hoshangabad and that of agronomy and climate from. Zonal Research Centre, Power Kheda, Hoshangabad. There are various suggestions also to over come these debacles...en_US
