Rehabilitation of old dams became necessary due to reasons of hydrological, geotechnical, ageing, and methods of construction practice. Insufficient impermeability in masonry dams is an alarming aspect, as it involves the safety of the dam. One of the conditions that can lead to the failure of masonry dams is an abnormal seepage through the body of the dam. This also causes excessive leaching and removal of lime from the mortar thereby reducing the strength of the masonry. The,various problems in construction of masonry dams are dealt in this dissertation. The causes for seepage in masonry dams and remedial measures and the various measures during construction and post construction are also discussed.....en_US
